Townsville, the largest city in northern Australia, is a thriving city with a population of approximately 170,000. It’s the very heart of life in the tropics; with the region extending north to the scenic Hinchinbrook Shire, west to historic Charters Towers, south to the rustic Burdekin and east to many beautiful islands along the coast. Surrounded by a rich hinterland of tropical rainforests, Townsville is the gateway to heritage gold-mining towns, the stunning outback, scenic islands and of course the Great Barrier Reef.
Major industry sectors include: manufacturing, government and defence, mining, construction and agriculture. The region is a major service centre to mines in North West and North East Queensland and boasts world class research and educational facilities. Townsville has something for everyone; it’s the ideal place to live, work and play.
Located in a dry tropics climate, Townsville offers an average of 300 days of sunshine each year. The region’s weather pattern is dominated by a short wet summer with considerable rainfall and a relatively long dry period for the remainder of the year.
Temperatures range between a minimum of 13 degrees in the winter months to a maximum of 33 degrees in the summer months.
