Restaurant and on-site bakery overlooking the countryside of Mareeba

Description

After much anticipation Skybury Coffee Estate has literally burst open the doors to its one-of-a-kind coffee attraction, The Australian Coffee Centre.

Located about an hours drive from Cairns and Port Douglas on the Skybury coffee plantation, perched on the apex of the Great Dividing Range, the centre provides a rare opportunity for guests to visit one of the most successful coffee plantations in the world as well as taste some of the finest Arabica coffee available. The majestic timber building, winner of five building awards to date and constructed by award-winning Eacham builder Jon Nott sits atop an impressive granite outcrop, features a 120 seat restaurant overlooking the plantation, a bakery with tourist viewing window, an impressive licensed bar, a coffee laboratory and a working coffee processing plant, in addition to a comprehensive gift shop and state-of-the-art 54-seat cinema featuring a specially commissioned presentation.

Inside, superb timbers and woodwork are a testament to the skills of local craftspeople and artisans including a 22m handcrafted bar of mango timber and a 4m table made from a single piece of tallow.

An impressive range of works by accomplished local artists including Bill Cooper also feature heavily throughout the centre.

The Australian Coffee Centre provides fully escorted tours throughout the day. Our specialty, undertaken by our expert tour guides, is the Skybury Plantation Tour which includes: An introduction, followed by an informative walk through the coffee plantation covering everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the origins, life cycle and farming of coffee, harvester viewing, tour of processing plant, Coffee Cinema and introduction to coffee tasting in the coffee lab.
