Tannum Sands State High School is a Queensland State Secondary School providing quality educational services to Boyne Island, Tannum Sands and hinterland. Our award winning school was established in 1998 and it has an excellent reputation in our region. Our motto is Creating Our Futures. We strive to provide, in partnership with the whole school community, a quality learning environment, where students can maximise their potential to create positive futures. Currently our enrolment is just over 1000 students, from Year 8 (13 years) to Year 12 (17 years). Built in 1998, our school has excellent facilities, including speciality buildings for all learning areas, a large Performance Centre (e.g. for school musical, assemblies and sport), a huge oval, 5-day a week canteen and full Internet access from over 200 computers. We offer a very wide curriculum, firm and fair discipline and quality relationships between students and staff. Our Key Values are Respect, Responsibility and Excellence. We emphasise high expectations, good citizenship and all-round development of each individual student. We have a well-established, award winning Gifted Program, call BSL-Zenith. Over 95% of our university applicants gain tertiary offers. We also cater for other pathways for students, having strong links with industry, including two off-site campuses (at a powerhouse and an aluminium smelter). Many students study off-site programs, such as school-based apprenticeships or TAFE. We cater extensively for students with special needs. We value highly the home-school partnership and welcome volunteers. We offer instrumental music, choir, debating and public speaking, as well as a wide variety of sport, including interschool competitions. We have a sister school in Japan, Modern History students travel to Vietnam and we welcome International Students. Our graduates work all over the world.
